The Esraj is a unique and fascinating musical instrument, combining elements of both the Saringda and Sitar. Its base is similar to the Saringda, while the neck and strings are reminiscent of the Sitar. This combination results in a sound that is reminiscent of the Sarangi, but with a much easier playing technique. The Esraj has a medium-sized sitar-like neck, complete with heavy metal frets, and a long wooden rack that holds 12-15 sympathetic strings. Its four bowed metal strings produce a beautiful and distinctive sound, complemented by a soundboard made of goatskin.
